Trying the app in iOS test flight. AIOC is detected as Packet Modem and when I try to connect to a nearby (3 miles) packet node, the connection fails. None of the ‘100’ nodes work. Auto PTT works fine. I am not sure how to debug this issue. Or I am missing something.
The best path prediction for VHF stations was too optimistic and has been adjusted in build 41. Prior to that, 100 scored stations were probably not reachable with a HT.
3 miles should definitely be doable assuming you have a good antenna. With a sound adapter, the audio volumes are critical. Make sure to adjust the volume of your phone almost all the way up. And verify the audio input in the audio monitor (tap the AIOC device in the device list).
Also make sure the radio squelsh is open.
I tried the same station with Winlink Packet + Graywolf KISS TNC + AIOC + GD77 with stocks antenna and it works. I am not sure if I am missing some settings in Radiomail.
Have you tried listening on another radio when you attempt a connection? That should help ensure that you’re sending packet out and can determine if you’re hearing a response back from the RMS or not.
Checked with another radio, I don’t hear any response from the RMS. But when I checked the same station with winlink packet, it works and I can hear responses from the station on the other radio.
If want you can upload audio samples so I can take a look at what might be going wrong:
- Quit RadioMail fully
- Go to iOS Settings > Apps > RadioMail
- Turn Log to Remote Server on
- Turn Upload Packet Modem Audio to Remote Server on
- Launch RadioMail and run a session
Turn those settings back off when you’re done experimenting as they consume bandwidth.

Nothing unusual in the logs. If you turn Upload Packet Modem Audio to Remote Server on I can inspect that audio in/out to see if there is a problem.

Good news, bad news. I validated that AOIC is working fine on my setup, so no blatant bug found there. Bad news is that there is a bug in the audio recording files for debugging that result in empty files being uploaded to the remote server. So that’s useless for now. Next TestFlight build will have that fixed and then I’ll be able to inspect your audio.
In the meantime, I’m wondering if tweaking some parameters might be necessary for your radio. You should try to change to the tx delay.
Tap AIOC, scroll down to Modes > Packet.
Increase TX Delay to 400 or 500ms. See if that makes a difference.
The other thing you can do is inspect the AX.25 parameters that Graywolf uses. Not sure what AFSK modem they use but you should be able to see the HDLC and AX.25 and compare if anything is wildly different.
Lastly, I’m assuming you’re using the latest firmware on the AIOC.
Thanks for your support. I tried to increase the TX delay, but still didn’t work. And I am not sure how to inspect the AX.25 parameters in Graywolf.
Build 42 on TestFlight should record audio properly now if you want to retry.

Got them. Audio out seems fine and audio in is playing back noise floor which means it’s hearing fine with squelsh fully opened.
The only issue I can see is the audio out volume seems a bit low. Try to move your iPhone/iPad volume up almost all the way to full (do it once the AIOC is plugged in) and see if that makes any difference.
