Help with BTECH UV PRO

Hi I just got a BTECH UV PRO and am having problems getting it to work with Radio Mail. The operating system is updated to 7.14 and the Kiss setting is checked. Radio mail does not see the BTECH and defaults to the internal setting. Any thoughts on what could be happening? Thanks Ron

Make sure the Btech app is not connected to the UV-PRO. The UV-PRO can only take one connection at a time.

Thanks that was the issue.73s Ron

Also, be sure that "Digital Mode" is not enabled in the UV PRO. This had me blocked for some time. The KISS TNC will not work otherwise. Once that was fixed the radio works fine with Radiomail. 73 de WA6NMF

I have disconnected from the Btech App. Unchecked Digital Mode as well. I still am unable to connect to to my UV-Pro using Radiomail. I can connect send/receive to my UV-Pro using the Winlink Express app on my Windows computer.

Did you pair it to the phone like a normal Bluetooth device or put it in pairing and then use radio mail to find it.

I use mine with my iPhone and iPad a lot.
I had issues one or two times but that been a long while ago.

@RandyLue, are you trying to pair with Bluetooth using the app, or in iOS settings? Do you have a station selected? What shows up in the window when you click "connect"?

I use Radio Mail on my iPhone and iPad and switch between a Kenwood D-75 (BBLINK) and my UV-Pro. My experience with the UV-PRo is that the Bluetooth is not as it appears for other Bluetooth devices; it does not show as connected but it does connect.
It should show up under Settings>Devices>Packet Kiss TNC Modem. There have been a couple of times I have the Btech App open and this will not allow the Radio Mail connect. Also if nothing else is opened and you do not see the UV Pro, turn the radio off then turn back on and give it a moment. I also find that once the UVpro is designated as the KissTNC modem in Radio Mail I don’t have any issues, it is when I change between radios, and only with the UVPro

I have paired the Mobilink TNC4 with the iphone 16 pro in three different ways, with no success. I have paired directly through the bluetooth menu on the iphone. I have paired using the Mobilinkd TNC app, and I have used autodiscover on the RadioMail app. I have tried it both on the Icom ID-52A and Icom IC-7100 radios with connector cords ordered through Mobilelink TNC store. I have the TNC set to multiplex, as has been recommended on various forums.

I had success one out of about 20 times. The usual error message in Radio Mail is:

*** Finding device TNC4 Mobilinkd
*** Connecting to KB7TEC010 with PACKET @ 144.990 MHz via KB7TEC
*** Could not establish connection.

Pairing through the Bluetooth menu on the phone does not work. For the KISS app to work, you need to "forget this device" in the phone and pair from the app. But, this exchange looks like you are connecting to the TNC but not getting a response. KB7TEC010 is not a valid station ID, should it be KB7TEC-10?

I went to iphone bluetooth settings and selected “forget this device” and paired through RadioMail. It still does not work. I did have the station set as KB7TEC-10 (I must have mistyped in the forum).
I still get the "*** Could not establish connection “ error message.

While the OP in this thread asked about the UV-PRO, I want to chime in since this applies broadly to all Bluetooth TNCs used with RadioMail, and I’ve noticed some common points of confusion.

Once you see the message `*** Connecting to CALLSIGN...`, that means RadioMail has discovered your TNC and is communicating with it and now attempting a connection.

If the connection fails after that, the issue is not with Bluetooth but likely one of the following:

  1. Between the TNC and the radio: This includes cabling mismatches, incorrect PTT settings, or possibly a faulty TNC.
  2. Between your radio and the station you’re trying to reach: This could be the wrong frequency, a weak or misaligned antenna, or simply not enough RF power to make the trip.
  3. With the target station: The remote station could be offline or not able to reach you back (although this is less common).

Troubleshooting RF paths can be tricky, and this is where some trial and error comes in. Try moving closer or to higher ground, swapping antennas, or increasing power. If you can, use another radio to monitor the frequency. Check if packets are going out, and whether there’s any reply.

You must pair the radio to the iPhone via the BTECH app, then close the BTECH app and set the uvPro as kiss modem in RadioMail

It finally worked today. Maybe TB7TEC was having issues.
