Being trying to mimic what the developer posted in the YouTube video regarding Varanny, I've purchased the exact same micro-computer (Bee-something), HDMI Fake dongle and I have almost everything done (varanny is working, auto-login is working, app is on autorun, etc) but there is no way I can get to work the hotspot so I can connect my iPhone to it and use RadioMail. Tried what he posted online and no luck, it looks like in Windows 10 the hotspot feature doesnt work unless the computer have internet because when I have the ethernet cable plugged to the microcomputer the hotspot works but when I dont have ethernet plugged the entire Hotspot "feature" disappears soooo of course the micro-computer is not going to have internet in the field. Searching online found this: "Check if your system is capable run this command: netsh wlan show drivers. Scroll down to Hosted network supported. If it says Yes you are in luck; if No there is no easy alternative and don't continue." So after run that command I am getting "No" under Hosted Network Supported" So how he make it work? I'm kind of out of ideas thinking to just return that micro-computer and just thing that I have donated money for an app that doesnt work. Any ideas? Unfortunately in my area ALL nodes are in VARA so regular packet with my useless Mobilinkd is not an option. I will appreciate any help during this frustrating time.
I connect my surface tablet to my iPhone via Bluetooth. So once I set that up, whenever I turn on the surface laptop the phone and computer connect automatically via Bluetooth. This isn’t access point mode just a Bluetooth connection. This seems to work.
That looks like a good idea too but what I’m trying to accomplish is to
just have a micro computer hidden in my truck and access it with my iPhone.
Anyways following your idea I’m going to try by Bluetooth then and now by
WiFi as the video says.
Thanks!
Angel
Good luck. I hope Georges comes on and gives us a little insight into how he does it.
Did you get this?
Correct, I got one but I think that affect the auto-login? Which I don’t
have issues with that. My issue is that the hotspot doesn’t stay on if I
unplug the microcomputer from Ethernet. Researching online it seems like is
a normal behavior which kind of makes sense because why someone wants the
hotspot of their computer turned on if the computer doesn’t have internet
to share? Except us who are doing something different
Internet access is not required for this to work, only a local TCP/IP network need to exist. The question is whether or not Windows will maintain the hotspot if no network interface exists. In my setup, I used WiFi to connect the PC to my local WiFi network. And while the iPhone did connect to the hotspot created by the PC, it's possible that the PC was still picking up that WiFi signal to keep Windows happy? I will run another test this week-end when I can shut off the WiFi network (without facing a rebellion from the natives sharing my household) and report back.
I would just go with the blue tooth
Ok, Im setting it up now with Bluetooth and it looks like is working fine but im not sure if I am missing something. I put a shortcut to varanny in the startup folder and I can see when it starts when the OS loads but then it goes away. Is that normal or the window with varanny listening should stay up? Maybe the way to set varanny on startup should be different?
Thanks in advance.
Mine stays up and open showing varanny listening. It might be a configuration issue because that’s what it did when I didn’t have the config file correct.
I finally had a chance to experiment with the Windows built-in HotSpot feature and discovered that it indeed requires an active Wi-Fi connection to initiate. Initially, this confused me because it turns out that once the HotSpot is activated, the Wi-Fi connection can actually be turned off and the HotSpot will continue to run. That, coupled with the fact that the built-in Windows HotSpot does not automatically survive a restart, we need another solution.
I found an excellent free tool that simplifies the management of HotSpot settings:
https://mypublicwifi.com/publicwifi/en/index.html
After installing it, I configured it to the 'No Internet Connection' mode, which perfectly meets our needs. Additionally, I've set it to automatically start upon system launch.
Beware that the time MyPublicWiFi takes to set up a hotspot can vary. As a result, it may be necessary to adjust the delay= parameter in the varanny.json configuration file. This parameter controls how long Varanny waits before it tries to connect to the network interface to broadcast dns-sd information. If Varanny initiates this process too soon, it might not detect the interface created by MyPublicWiFi. Based on my tests, a delay setting of 10 to 15 seconds generally works well.
You should experiment with Bluetooth.
