I have difficulty working a successful Packet 1200 session with Radiomail and my new Digirig VOX cable. I am using an iPhone 14 and the Apple adapter for the TRRS cable. I am very successful with the exact same HT radio and antenna and distance to RMS using Winlink and a Digirig Mobile.
I followed the Youtube setup from HamRadioTube and I have successful audio setup in the "green" range and sending tone at 12 khz. I have tested TX using a second radio that receives the tone.Radiomail and the VOX cable successfully keys up the PTT and I can occasionally get a Packet RMS to connect but not as reliably as the other setup. I have not successfully sent or received an email with the Radiomail/VOX cord setup yet.
What other settings in Radiomail or my radio should I look at?
Thank you,

What radio are you using?

I am using TidRadio H3's and I have tried several of them. Again, they are quite successful with VARA FM and PACKET on Desktop Winlink. I am not repeating the success with the iOS device and Radiomail yet. At least I know the communications are working between the radio, VOX cable and the iOS device. It is a very simple setup but there are other settings in Radiomail I have not touched yet beyond setting the drive level and changing the outgoing tone to 12 kHz.
I will be getting as good a analog HT as I can soon (Probably an analog Yeasu), just using the H3's to test the concept. I am mostly an HF user.

I'm not familiar with that radio, but it looks like another clone of the
various Chinese radios. So, I would make sure STE is turned off of it has
that setting. VOX adds a bit more delay to the turnaround from TX to RX
that won't be present on the DigiRig Mobile. If you then add STE to the
equation, that might be too much delay for reliable operation.
Also, make sure you are running with open squelch.

Scott,
I have Squelch Tail "OFF" for both RX and TX. There is also a setting VOX (Off) and VOX Tail (2 seconds) which I do not think apply as the VOX cable is sending a PTT not keying by VOX correct? The PTT is being engaged.

Scott,
I have now had success with a Packet send and receive via Radiomail. I did tweak the Radiomail settings for Packet KISS TNC Modem for Persistence, TX Delay and Wait Time and in addition I was not making sure my phone was set for full output volume....so somewhere there, successful Packet Winlink was accomplished.
Thank you for helping out. I have to say....overall Radiomail has a very iOS experience of simplicity and performance. I look forward to testing more with a better radio but proof of this Digirig VOX "experimental" cable has been made for me. When I get an iOS device with USB C in a few months I will also try out Digirig LITE.

I would guess either TX Delay or increasing the device volume did the trick.
Careful with the DigiRig VOX cable. It will probably work fine with the H3, but I had trouble with it on Icom handhelds. I worked with the developer to suggest a design change, but not sure if that has happened.

Scott,
The YouTube demo mentioned an issue with the ICOM cable from Digirig.
