Using Packet Commander and my UV Pro I can easily connect to three nearby KPC3+ nodes but once I press Return the node disconnects from me. This doesn’t happen when I connect using my base station. I did a factory reset of the UV Pro but that didn’t fix the problem. I also changed from high to low power. It still disconnects when I enter a character and press Return of when I just press Return.
Of course, by Return, I mean “send.” That’s the word on the iPhone. Since the initial post, I drove up on a hill close to one of the nodes so I’d be close and line of sight. Same problem. The node disconnects me as if I’m sending “Bye” instead of “send.” Checking out the packets with “trace” on my home station, I see that I’m not being disconnected by too many failed tries.
I struggled with this problem with Packet Commander for 3 and a half weeks . If you have the same problem, relax, there’s a simple solution.
Using Packet Commander, I encountered three nodes that would disconnect after I entered something after the welcome message.
After experimenting with numerous parameters, I finally figured out what was going on. The three nodes are all on the same frequency as my base station. Since my base station has the same call sign as my HT, when a node sent data to my call sign, the base station got into the act and fouled things up.
Using a different SSID doesn’t make a difference.
The fix: When I want to connect to these nodes using Packet Commander, my base station needs to be tuned to a different frequency or turned off.
