Possible Bluetooth problem on iPad OS 26

I have upgraded my iPad pro to Public Beta 26 release 2, and both RadioMail and PacketCommander no longer seem to connect to my UV-PRO. The symptoms are that RadioMail appears to connect to the radio, but the radio does not switch frequencies, transmit, etc. Connection log is below.

[Edit] I have deleted the entry for the TNC and re-paired the device.

I know, usual admonition of not using betas for anything critical, but somebody has to test at some point. Everything is working on my iPhone, which is on 18.6. So, this is a heads-up that Apple has introduced some Bluetooth strangeness in the iOS beta, which hopefully will get resolved in an upcoming release. Happy to help with any testing that will help debugging.

*** Finding device UV-PRO
*** Connecting to KC1UIX-12 with PACKET @ 145.010 MHz
*** Could not establish connection.

Another bit of evidence that this is a Bluetooth issue introduced in Beta 26: The app aprs.fi will also connect to the radio, but beacons aren’t being transmitted. Packets are being received and displayed on the TNC log, so the problem seems to lie somewhere on the transmit / PTT path.

Not seeing any problem with iOS 26.0 (23A5308g), developer beta 5 (should be the same as public beta 2). Perhaps a bluetooth permission in iOS is preventing write to BLE?

Many thanks much for the suggestion! Bluethooth permissions were on for Radiomail, but I toggled them off and on again, re-connected the radio in the UV-Pro app, disconnected, then tried RadioMail. I was able to successfully connect and send a Winlink message after that.

I will continue to test. I still supect beta strangeness, but you have provided a valuable way to proceed. I’ll keep the thread updated if I find out more.

I’ve done some more testing, and Bluetooth behavior has definitely changed. I still put this down to Beta weirdness, but we’ll monitor as new public betas come out. Results below, happy to elaborate or test further.

Test 1:
- Turn Radio ON
- Settings: TNC ON, Digital Mode OFF, radio not in pairing mode

Results:

RadioMail:  Default TNC= UV-PRO Connect-> `Could not establish connection.`

aprs.fi: Appears it was connected to TNC. Disconnected manually.

RadioMail:  Retried, same results.

Btech UV-Pro app: Radio shows nearby. App tries to connect but hangs. Disconnected manually.

Test 2:
- Turn Radio ON
- Settings: TNC ON, Digital Mode OFF, radio in pairing mode

Results:

RadioMail:  Default TNC= UV-PRO Connect-> `Could not establish connection.`

Btech UV-Pro app: Radio shows nearby. App tries to connect but hangs. Disconnected manually.

aprs.fi: Connected manually. Appears briefly connected, then "goes back to "Connect TNC"

Test 3:
- Turn Radio ON
- Forget UV-Pro in Settings>Bluetooth on iPad
- Settings: TNC ON, Digital Mode OFF, radio in pairing mode

Results:

Btech UV-Pro app: Radio shows nearby. App connects, presents dialog to pair radio. Clicking "Pair" in dialog box results in connection and normal operation of app. Manually disconnected.

RadioMail: Was able to successfully connect & fetch Winlink.

aprs.fi: Connected manually - successful. Sent beacon, heard by other radio., when other radio beaconed, packet showed in TNC log in aprs.fi. Disconnected TNC in aprs.fi.

Btech UV-Pro app: successfully reconnected.

Analysis: Something has changed in the way that the radio connects to Bluetooth. It appears necessary to "forget" any previous parings in iPad OS Settings>Bluetooth for correct operation.
