Having no success connecting to a very close Winlink gateway using RadioMail. I think I've set up my Mobilinkd TNC4 properly as it does receive APRS packets nicely, however, when I attempt to connect to a Winlink VHF packet gateway, I hear mostly silence in return. Occasionally, I'll get a brief squawk back, and that's with the squelch set at 1.
I must be doing something wrong. I've used these same HT's and my RPi4/Direwolf + Digirig successfully with RadioMail, but struggling with the Mobilinkd.
I had the same issue when setting mine up. Under the PacketKISS TNC Modem settings I changes wait time to 4 seconds, TX delay to 400ms, Persistence to 95 ms and slot time to 100ms. Once I changed these settings I am connecting successfully and consistently.
For digital operation I recommend opening the squelch. You may need to adjust the audio levels as well. Use the Mobilinkd app and make sure the green bar showing audio level is full.
Beyond that tweaking the TNC settings as suggested by Eric may help in some situation but for the most part the defaults should work fine with Mobilinkd.
Still no luck despite the settings changes (and keeping squelch open) you suggested. I am still decoding APRS packets with no problem, but it doesn't look like my beacons are being received.
With what appears to be no response from Winlink or APRS gateways/digipeaters, are there any other settings I'm neglecting? Was hoping all the default settings for RadioMail and Mobilinkd would be sufficient. Since RadioMail did work with my RPi4/Direwolf setup, I'm concerned this is might be a Mobilinkd issue.
