RM 1.5: connection to Varanny 0.3.2. fails

Aloha,

I just upgraded to RM 1.5, and thought of testing my Varanny -> Vara HF - IC-7300 connection.

So
1. Winlink works fine with Vara HF and the radio
2. Varanny runs, and in RM, the HF modem as specified in varanny.json, is discovered.

However, when trying to connect, I get a timeout, and Varanny still sits there at "Waiting for connection".

I guess I need some hints on what to check next. It's been a while since I used Vara HF from RM, so I'm not blaming the 1.5 release for it.

EDIT: running iOS 18.3.

Thanks

Well, haha.

For some reason, two of the four Windows Firewall rules for varanny were blocking traffic. Allowed the connection, and now it's all working.

I have had the same problem. Varanny is not the problem. Windows, your
hardware and My public wifi software can all make Varanni not work
properly. I know by experience. Varanni was tested originally in Wimdows
10. The computer recommended by Georges (the Beelink T4 pro) is very hard
to find as it is now obsolete. You can still find used ones on Ebay. The
newer Beelink computers use updated processors and come with Windows 11.
Varanni runs well on Windows 11 but I had problems with My public wifi. It
would not let the pc shutdown properly when turned off using the power
button. I had to down grade to windows 10. I am not using the Beelink
computer. I am using a Lenovo Thikcentre. Microsoft says it is not
compatible with Windows 11. Last night I finally got it to work. One last
thing. Varanni’s .json file is critical. If not properly edited, it will
cause Varanni to not work. Syntax is very important. A coma or parenthasis
in the wrong place and it will not work. Ther is a parameter that is not
included in the file you download with Varanni. If your instalation
continues to have intermittent problems, add : “Delay”:15, in between
“port”: 8273 and “modems”: [ .
This makes Varranni wait until My public wifi boots up. The “15” can be
adjusted depending on how long My publi wifi takes to start. If your
hardrive is mechanical, it can need to be adjusted as high as 60.
