I’ve been experimenting with the Room chat functionality and cannot seem to get to work properly. I’ve been testing with an iPhone paired to a VR-N76 and an iPad paired to a Mobilinkd TNC4. Both radios are tuned to the same frequency. I’ve been trying to send plain messages and neither device receives/interprets the messages. What am I doing wrong?
What call sign is each device set to and what callsign are you using for the “room”?
Both devices are configued to use the callsign KK7MNZ-5 (problem?). I used FRAMEWORK as the room/tactical callsign. I also recreated my test using a BBLink/TH-D75 with the VR-N75 with the same results.
You can’t use the same callsign. AX.25 protocol uses the callsign as an address for routing and it probably confuses the app. You might be able to use a different SSID but Radio Messenger coalesce all SSID under your base callsign so that might lead to some funky results in the conversation thread. Worth experimenting…
I will attempt to change the SSID since I only have one callsign
This makes testing tricky.
You also hit a lack of data validation bug. AX.25 limit the address field to 6 character long. Try a shorter callsign for the room name.
ok. I used a new room name. Kept it simple – “ROOM”. I switched the SSID to something unique on my ipad/mobilinkd. Room chat is now working as expected. Thank you.
