Goal: Run RadioMail HF sessions on the Xiegu X6100 and X6200 over Wi-Fi.
Stock firmware via WFSERVER
- Both radios ship with a built-in wfview server (WFSERVER) that speaks the Icom LAN UDP protocol, the same protocol we use for the IC-705. The X6100 needs firmware 1.1.7 or later.
- Work: add X6100 and X6200 profiles to the existing IC-705 Wi-Fi client. The user enters host, control port, username and password from the radio’s WFSERVER screen. CI-V covers frequency, mode, filter and PTT, with mode and filter restored at session end.
- Verify first: handshake and rig ID, TX audio (early X6100 firmware had TX audio problems over Wi-Fi), audio codec and sample rate, and CI-V address (0xA4 on the X6200; X6100 to confirm).
OpenX6X00 firmware via TCI
- OpenX6X00 is open firmware for both radios. It serves TCI v2.0 over a WebSocket on port 50001, carrying CAT, PTT, RX audio (int16 mono, 24 kHz) and TX audio in one connection.
- Work: build a new TCI transport (WebSocket client, command/ack flow, audio streams, resampling to the modem rate). Add discovery via mDNS (x6100.local, x6200.local).
- Notes: TCI has no authentication. OpenX6X00 removed the wfview server, so users on this firmware can only connect through TCI. Installing it means booting third-party firmware from microSD.
- Bonus: a generic TCI transport also works with other TCI servers, such as ExpertSDR and AetherSDR.
Out of scope for now
- USB + Bluetooth. As far as we know, Bluetooth CAT on these radios is Classic SPP, which iOS apps can’t open without MFi, and iOS apps can’t reach USB serial. Revisit if a BLE service turns up.
